WHOIS and domain expiry lookup

Every domain name is registered for a fixed period, and if the owner forgets to renew it the website and email attached to it stop working. This tool looks the domain up in the public registration database and shows when it was created and when it expires.

It is useful for checking your own renewal date, researching a domain you want to buy, or finding out which registrar a site uses.

How to read the results

  • Expires is the date the registration runs out. Many registrars add a short grace period, but you should renew long before.
  • Registered is when the domain was first created.
  • Registrar is the company the domain is registered through.
  • Name servers are where the domain’s DNS records are managed.

Questions

Why is some information missing?

Registries now hide most personal contact details to protect privacy, and some country domains do not publish dates at all. We only show what the public registry data provides.

What happens if a domain expires?

The site and email stop working and, after a grace period, the domain can be released for anyone to register. Our guide to domain expiry explains the stages.

Can I see the owner’s name?

Usually not. Contact details are redacted for privacy in most registries.
