How fast is your connection right now? Press start and we measure your download speed, upload speed, ping and jitter in about 20 seconds. No app and no sign-up.

The test uses roughly 50 to 300 MB of data, so avoid it on a limited mobile plan. It runs between your browser and Cloudflare's public speed-test network. We do not store your result or your address. Results depend on your device, Wi-Fi and what else is using your connection.

Use it like an app

On Android, tap Install as an app above, or open your browser menu and choose Install app. On iPhone, tap Share and then Add to Home Screen. It opens straight to the speed test, with no app store needed.

Getting an accurate result

  • Use a cable if you can, or stand near the router.
  • Close streaming, downloads and other tabs first.
  • Turn off a VPN, which adds its own delay.
  • Run it two or three times and compare. Speeds vary from minute to minute.

Questions

How does the speed test work?

Your browser downloads and uploads test data to Cloudflare's public speed-test servers and times it. It also sends many tiny requests to measure ping and jitter. Nothing is installed.

How much data does it use?

Usually 50 to 300 MB, more on a very fast connection. Avoid running it on a limited mobile data plan.

Why is my result lower than what I pay for?

Wi-Fi, an old router, other devices using the connection, a VPN and a busy evening network all lower the result. For the most accurate number, use a cable and close other apps.

What are ping and jitter?

Ping is how long a message takes to reach a server and return, in milliseconds. Jitter is how much that time varies. Low numbers matter most for gaming and video calls.

What is a good speed?

About 10 Mbps is enough for HD video, 25 Mbps for 4K, and 5 Mbps down with 2 Mbps up for video calls. For several people at once, aim for 50 Mbps or more.

Does a slow connection mean a website is down?

No. If one site will not load but others do, check it with our website checker. If everything is slow, the problem is your connection.
